Man-mountain Darren Moore arrived at Pride Park in January 2006 to add experience and a physical presence to the defence - and delivered on both counts.
He has plenty of both and also the knowledge of what it takes to get out of the Championship, having been promoted with Bradford City in 1999 and twice with West Bromwich Albion, in 2002 and again in 2004.
And by the end of 2006/07 he was able to add another promotion to the list after helping Derby to the Premier League via the play-off final, at the expense of his former club West Brom.
At six feet two inches tall and weighing over 15 stone, Moore is an imposing figure at both ends of a football field and endeared himself to the Derby fans straight away.
He was known as Big Dave at WBA, due to his resemblance to a character from a TV advert, and Baggies fans have been contacting Derby County on a regular basis to check on his progress.
Moore began at Torquay United before moving on to Doncaster Rovers, Bradford, Portsmouth and WBA in 2001, and has amassed over 500 career appearances.
