Jason Beardsley was one of three Academy graduates to sign professional in the summer of 2007.
The Burton-born defender penned a two-year deal along with Mitch Hanson and Miles Addison following their time as scholars.
Beardsley, a right-back by trade, impressed when given the chance during pre-season ahead of the Premier League campaign.
He travelled with the senior squad to the training camp in Italy and appeared against FC Chiasso, before following that up with three assists in the 3-0 win at Burton Albion.
And he was given his chance on the big stage in front of 25,000 fans as the Rams saw off Nottingham Forest to claim the Brian Clough Trophy.
Beardsley started the Pride Park Stadium encounter and gave a fine performance before receiving a deserved standing ovation when substituted in the second period.
His professional debut came at the end of August as he gave a good hour in the Carling Cup exit to Blackpool.
Beardsley's first taste of Premier League life came on March 29 when he was an unused substitute for the 2-2 draw at home to Fulham.
