Derbyshire Constabulary is urging fans attending this weekend's Derby County v Nottingham Forest match to enjoy the occasion but warns against anyone intent on causing disruption.

The Coca-Cola Championship match at Pride Park Stadium on Sunday November 2 is a 33,000 sell out and the 1.15pm game is also being beamed live on Sky Sports.

Derbyshire police have put plans in place alongside both clubs and colleagues in Nottinghamshire to make sure the game is a success and any trouble is prevented.

Police are also reminding both sets of fans treat the encounter in the right spirit.

As well as league points up for grabs the game is also being used to contest the Brian Clough Trophy, in memory of the enigmatic former Derby and Forest manager.

Superintendent Garry Sherwood, in charge of the policing operation for the match, said: "We know this is a fixture both sets of fans look forward to with relish and we realise there is great rivalry between the clubs and fans but we also have a responsibility to make sure everyone can enjoy the atmosphere and the match in a safe a manner as possible.

"What we don't want and will not put up with is where that enthusiasm and passion turns into violent or overly aggressive behaviour.

"We have significant resources in place and the message we want people to take on board is if you misbehave you will be dealt with firmly.

"That doesn't only include people inside the ground, that includes people involved in watching the match live in pubs and clubs in the area as well.

"Both teams will be contesting the Brian Clough Trophy and I would hope that both sets of fans will see the match as a fitting tribute to their former manager and act accordingly."

Chief Inspector Steve Haylett, who is leading the Nottinghamshire Police operation, said: "This will be a joint operation between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, and we will be working closely with them to ensure that everyone going to Sunday's game can enjoy it in a safe and secure environment."

The winning side will be presented with a trophy following the match. A draw will result in Derby retaining the trophy as the holders.

Around 2,800 Nottingham Forest fans will be attending the game and they are being reminded that there will be no alcohol on sale in the away concourses at half-time.

Police in Derbyshire have sent out warning letters to known troublemakers telling them to stay away from the fixture.

Venues showing the match on television have also been contacted and reminded of their licensing obligations.

Supporters are reminded that Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Derbyshire Constabulary and Nottinghamshire Police have joint protocols for people arrested and convicted of football related offences or who commit breaches of ground regulation.

Any arrest, conviction or breach could result in club bans which will prevent individuals attending any future fixtures at Pride Park or the City Ground for a predetermined period.
