Polish midfielder Przemyslaw Kazmierczak is a Derby County player after completing his move from Portuguese giants FC Porto.

The 26-year-old joins the Rams on a season-long loan and arrives with experience of the Champions League and nine international caps to his name.

He is a player who - at six-feet three inches tall and with a good left foot - has the attributes to be a hit in English football.

And Rams boss Paul Jewell is delighted to have landed the holding midfielder.

He said: "This is a very good deal for Derby County and a signing that I think may well prove to be a great piece of business.

"Kaz has a terrific pedigree. He has experienced Champions League football and international football, as well as playing for Porto, one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

"He is a left-footed central midfielder who can certainly play but at the same time is very strong and very physical.

"I think he is perfectly suited for English football."

Kazmierczak, known simply as Kaz in Portugal, made his international debut in 2006 and has gone on to score one goal in his nine caps.

He joined Porto in July last year and was involved in their Champions League campaign, starting against Liverpool at Anfield.

The 6'3" man started his career at LKS Lodz and also played for Piotrcovia Piortkow Trybunalski and Pogin Szczecin before starring at Boavista in 2006/07.

Kazmierczak's form with Boavista earned him the move to Porto last summer.

He becomes Derby's second signing of the day following the capture of striker Rob Hulse from Sheffield United in a deal worth £1.75m.

And he is the 11th summer capture, added to defenders Martin Albrechtsen, Jordan Stewart and Paul Connolly, midfield foursome Kris Commons, Steve Davies, Paul Green and Ruben Zadkovich, and strikers Nathan Ellington and Liam Dickinson.
