www.dcfc.co.uk can reveal that Derby County are in talks with released Nottingham Forest winger Kris Commons over a move to Pride Park Stadium.

The 24-year-old left the City Ground earlier on Wednesday after Reds boss Colin Calderwood decided against offering him a new contract.

And Derby have moved swiftly in a bid to secure the left-winger's services ahead of the 2008/09 Coca-Cola Championship season.

Chairman of football Adam Pearson said: "We are in talks with Kris and we are hopeful that he will agree to join us in the near future."

Nottingham-born Commons played a key role in helping the Reds win promotion to the Championship this season but decided his future lay elsewhere.

He made a total of 159 appearances for Forest, scoring 38 goals, after moving from Stoke City in 2004.

Commons graduated from Stoke's youth ranks and made his debut for the Potters back in October 2001.

If the deal does go through, Commons will become the first player to make a direct move from Nottingham Forest to Derby County since Gary Charles arrived at the Baseball Ground in July 1993.
