JEWELL AIMS FOR SPECTACULAR RETURN
Paul Jewell insists bringing Derby back as one of the Championship's "best-ever" teams is his aim for next season.
The Rams will go down with the lowest points total in Premier League history following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.
But Jewell has already spoken about his confidence for an assault on promotion next season and reiterated his desire after the game at Ewood Park.
He said of the tag as the Premier League's worst team: "It's deserved, no doubt about it.
"We aren't where we are because we have been unlucky this season.
"My only aim now is to bring Derby back as one of the best Championship sides there has ever been and this will be forgotten."
Derby went into the Ewood Park encounter knowing that they needed a win if they were to have a chance of getting over the 15-point mark.
They were looking well set as the first half came to a close having gone in front through Kenny Miller.
But Roque Santa Cruz equalised seconds before the whistle, Jason Roberts made it 2-1 after the break and Santa Cruz wrapped things up.
Jewell said: "We are not a team that can recover from setbacks - we have not got that in the squad.
"Once we go a goal down it is almost as though we are looking at damage limitation.
"The goals we are conceding are beyond belief and people do not have to work hard to score against us.
"In the first half we looked bright, lively, as though we had got another goal in us.
"But when things aren't going your way you concede right on half-time and I felt they went in undeservedly level.
"Once it went to 2-1 you are looking around and don't see too many men in the trenches."
