GAFFER CALLS FOR RAMS TO BE BRAVE
Paul Jewell admits that Arsenal at their best can be "frightening" - but says it's up to the Rams to be brave against their North London opponents.
Arsene Wenger's talented side have produced some dazzling football at times in a season that has ultimately tailed off from a promising position.
But they still possess some of the Premier League's most dangerous players and have the ability to pass their way through any side.
"Alongside Manchester United, most people would say that Arsenal are the best team to watch on their day - they can be frightening," he revealed in a forthcoming interview on RamsWorld.
"We have got to try and compete but also be brave when we get the ball, and try to play.
"It can be a frightening task against the likes of Arsenal but we have got to try and embrace these games as obviously the season is coming to an end.
"There is no pressure on us but we would love to get a result against Arsenal - as we would anybody.
"It is a big game against some of the top players in Europe, so it is one to look forward to rather than look at with trepidation."
Pride Park is once again likely to be packed to the rafters with the last few tickets for Monday's clash going on sale over the weekend.
Two of Derby's final three games of the season are in front of their own fans, something which Jewell was keen to recognise.
He added: "We want to try and give our supporters - who have been the best thing to come out of this season - something to be happy about.
"They have had an absolutely horrendous season as far as results are concerned but they turn up every week.
"Because of that it would be lovely to get five points between now and the end of the season and we know it is going to be difficult but that is what we are trying to do."
And Jewell refuted suggestions that the fact Derby have to wait until Monday to play - coupled with the identity of their opponents - would make it a "long weekend".
"At the end of the day it is a football match, and there are worse things in life than football matches," he said.
"It can be a long 90 minutes when you are getting a pasting but all we will say to the players is if we go out there worrying about playing Arsenal we will not get anything.
"We have got to go out there and respect them greatly but not fear them.
"We have to try and be brave when we have got the ball kand when we haven't got it we have to try and stop them from playing.
"Saying it and doing it are very difficult but that is what we are going to try and do."
Fitness-wise, the Rams have minor concerns over Kenny Miller and Dean Leacock but Jewell expects the pair to be fit for Monday.
He will also be assessing midfielder David Jones, who picked up "a bit of a calf strain" in training on Friday morning.
