Paul Jewell accepts that players will leave Derby County this summer - but only on his terms.

"Like every other football club there are players we have that will be coveted by other teams," the Derby boss told RamsWorld.

"I've stipulated time and time again that if an offer comes in and the player wants to leave and it's right for the football club we will do business - but only on my terms.

"That's the beauty of the situation I am in with the club because I haven't got to sell players - we haven't got to make dramatic cutbacks because it's going to be a sustained effort to get back.

"Whatever I sell will be regenerated into team strengthening and there will be a little bit of cash available too - I don't know how much."

And he's happy to shoulder the burden of supporter anticipation next time around.

"I want there to be a sense of expectation - that's not putting extra pressure on me or the team - it's why I came here," he said.

"I take my responsibility for the team being relegated because I've been here long enough to try to improve results, but what I want to do is try to unify the football club.

"When you got promoted last season and even before that there was talk of unrest - there was word on the street of football that all wasn't right at Derby County.

"From an outsider looking in I found that hard to believe when you were going for promotion and the team was doing so well with great crowds.

"But obviously things were going on behind the scenes that weren't right, whatever they were.

"I can guarantee now that we are 100% unified behind the scenes and pulling in the right direction."
